What a certification actually tells you

Every language vendor will tell you their work is accurate and their handling is secure. A certification is different in one specific way: an accredited outside body examined the process, tested it against a published international standard, and can withdraw the certificate if it stops holding. That gives the buyer independent evidence rather than relying solely on the vendor’s own assurances. That matters most when you are the one accountable for the choice. A translation that goes to a regulator, a recording that contains personal health information, a contract that has to satisfy a supplier diversity requirement: in each case someone downstream will ask you how you know. These three pages exist so you can point at something.

Not every document needs the same treatment. A patient consent form and an internal newsletter carry different risk, and putting the highest-touch process on both is money spent for no gain. The judgment is in matching the method to the content, and then being able to show that the method held. Our human translation workflow is certified to ISO 17100 (Translation Services), which sets requirements for linguist qualifications, revision by a second qualified linguist, and terminology management. Where machine translation with human post-editing suits the content better, that workflow is certified to ISO 18587 (Machine Translation Post-Editing). Either way the process is documented and independently audited rather than described.
