WASCLA shows you how to enhance access to language

Emanuel Longo | August 31, 2010

WashingtonThe 2000 U.S. Census indicated that 14% of Washington residents speak a language other than English at home. Although the 2010 results have not yet been announced, it’s safe to say that the percentage has increased in the past decade.

How can we make everyone feel like a part of the community? How can we efficiently give people access to information in their language?

You, your friends and your coworkers can find out by attending the sixth-annual Washington State Coalition for Language Access (WASCLA) Summit, titled “Working together to ensure language access”. Register before September 24 and receive a $40 discount!

The conference is scheduled for Oct. 15-16 at the Shoreline Conference Center (north of Seattle), where educators, health care providers, policy makers, translators, interpreters and more can mingle and discuss ways to increase access to languages in Washington state.

The summit also offers continuing education credits. For example, you can earn up to 10.5 credits toward the Court Interpreter Program at the Washington Administrative Office of the Courts!

In your opinion, which industry should most take advantage of translation and interpretation services?
