Google Announces Real-Time Translation with GBoard

Google has announced several upgrades to its new Android keyboard. The Gboard now has the ability to do automatic translation. As you type, the new Google Translate integration will translate text in real time as you type it in.

You can also now translate text from one language to another directly from the keyboard using the “Translate” button. This could eliminate the hassle of firing up the separate Translate app and then copying and pasting the text.

This presents all sorts of opportunities for near-instant cross-lingual communication — or just trolling your friend by seamlessly switching to a language neither of you understand. .

In the past you had to type a message, copy it and then translate it in the Google Translate app to get a translation. Google realized this inconvenience to the user experience, and that is why the new Gboard offers a more seamless and instant translation.

You can translate to and from any of Google Translate’s usual language options, making a whole new world of multilingual communication open to you. By default, it is set to detect the language you’re writing in automatically, but you can still choose one manually if desired. You must still select the language you want to translate to manually, of course, as it can’t read minds.
